Dear Friends,
One year ago, on the 5th of October, I drove from Tel Aviv to Kibbutz Be’eri to attend an event organized by the Christian Embassy in Israel. The gathering took place just 200 meters from an ANZAC memorial, near the Gaza border, and was secured by a Golani Brigade patrol. I spoke with the young sergeant in charge, who said, “You wouldn’t believe how quiet and peaceful it is.” His words still echo in my mind, as one of my last memories of the Israel we knew before Hamas unleashed its barbaric attack two days later.
Hamas’ brutal onslaught claimed over 1,200 Israeli lives, including my own relatives, Ido and Maor, and my dear students, Col. Roi and Col. Yehonatan. May their memories forever be a blessing. The tragedy deeply shook the nation of Israel as well as our supporters around the world, as we grappled with a resurgence of hatred and violence aimed at destroying our people and our homeland.
In a world where support for Israel seems to dwindle, Australia is becoming an increasingly lonely place for the Jewish community and for me as Ambassador. Yet, even in this environment, we know we are not alone. You, our Zionist Christian brothers and sisters, have stood by us with unwavering solidarity. Your love for Israel, your prayers, and your tireless efforts to defend Israel’s right to exist are a source of strength for all of us.
The Christian Zionist community has not just stood, you have been advocating and pushing Your involvement in rallies, your generous contributions, and your hands-on volunteering in Israel have demonstrated a commitment that goes beyond words. Whether advocating for Israel in the media, defending it in political circles, or simply sharing the truth with your communities, you have made an invaluable impact.
We live in times where antisemitism is on the rise, not only globally but right here in Australia. The sharp increase in hate, threats, and acts of violence directed toward Jews, both in public spaces and within the safety of their homes, has been alarming. Yet, despite this darkness, your community has never faltered. You have continued to stand tall, defending Israel and the Jewish people with courage and conviction.
As we reflect on one year since the horrific events of October 7th, Israel remains determined to achieve all its military objectives, bring our hostages home, and restore peace to our land. This fight is not only for Israel’s future, but for the future of the free world. And it is in times like these that your friendship, support, and partnership have never been more crucial.
Let us continue to pray for the brave men and women who risk their lives daily to protect Israel. May we stand strong together, united in faith, and let us always be guided by our shared mission to support the Land and the People of Israel.
Thanking you all for being true friends.
With deep appreciation,
Amir Maimon
Ambassador of Israel to Australia
