Israel, Iran, and the Return of Messiah

September 12, 2025

In the shadow of escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, many are asking: Where is this all heading? But the better question is: Has it all happened before? To understand what’s unfolding in the Middle East, we need to dust off the ancient scrolls of the prophets—because they saw it coming long before the headlines did.

A Storm from the North

The prophet Ezekiel paints a picture of a massive coalition arising against Israel in the last days. In Ezekiel 38–39, a leader named Gog from the land of Magog gathers nations like Persia (modern-day Iran), Cush, Put, and others for a final assault on the land of Israel. They come with military might, yet they fall by the hand of God Himself.

Sound familiar?

Iran’s growing hostility toward Israel—through proxies like Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza—isn’t just political. It’s prophetic. The nation of Persia, known today as Iran, is not new to Jewish history. In fact, Queen Esther confronted a Persian plot to annihilate the Jewish people nearly 2,500 years ago. That same spirit of hatred and antisemitism still lingers—now cloaked in modern weaponry and diplomatic strategy.

But Ezekiel doesn’t just see a war—he sees a God intervention. Israel doesn’t win by military strength alone. The LORD defends His people “so the nations may know that I am the LORD” (Ezekiel 38:23).

The Regathered Nation

Before this war happens, Ezekiel sees Israel restored to her land:

“I will bring them back to their own land… I will settle them in their land, and no one shall make them afraid” (Ezekiel 36:24, 28).

This regathering has already begun. Against all odds, the Jewish people returned to their ancient homeland in 1948 after nearly 2,000 years of exile. Hebrew was revived. Desert places bloomed. Cities were rebuilt on ruins. And despite constant threats, Israel stands.

This miraculous return isn’t a political coincidence—it’s a fulfilment of God’s promises. The prophets said it would happen first physically, then spiritually. First the land, then the heart. And it’s in this restored land that the final chapters of history unfold.

Messiah Will Stand on the Mount of Olives

Zechariah 14 gives another critical piece of the puzzle:

“I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it… Then the LORD will go out and fight against those nations… On that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives” (Zechariah 14:2–4).

This is the return of Messiah—not to Rome, not to New York, not to Australia—but to Jerusalem. And it won’t be quiet.

Every eye will see. Every knee will bow. The King will come, not as a suffering servant, but as a reigning King—Messiah Ben David.

The Iranian threat, the global pressure on Israel, and the rising chaos in the nations are not random events—they are birth pains. And the world is groaning for the return of the rightful King.

A Festival of Prophetic Alignment

This is exactly why we gather each year at Kingdom Festival. Not just to worship and celebrate, but to rehearse for the coming Kingdom.

Held during the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot), Kingdom Festival points forward to the day Zechariah described—when the nations will go up to Jerusalem to worship the King (Zechariah 14:16–19). The same chapter that prophesies His return on the Mount of Olives ends with a global call to celebrate this very feast.

Kingdom Festival is a prophetic gathering where believers from all walks of life come together to encounter God’s presence, honour His appointed times, and prepare for what’s coming. It’s a bold declaration: We are not of this world. We belong to the coming Kingdom. We are preparing the way for the King. What Should We Do Now?

This isn’t a time for fear. It’s a time to wake up.

If you’re a believer in Jesus (Yeshua), the return of the King is your hope. But it also means aligning your heart with His—especially for Israel, for holiness, and for readiness. Now is the time to return to the Word, honour God’s calendar, and be part of what He’s doing in these final days.

The shaking of nations is not the end. It’s the beginning of something glorious.
