At this very critical time in Israel, when war is expected to escalate, Women’s International Zionist Organisation (WIZO) is working intensely to assist in the greatly needed and urgent requirements of Israelis, especially Israeli children who have become dispossessed, or whose parents have been called to serve in the IDF.
We all know the impact of 7 October 2023—the massacre of adults and children, those left homeless and orphaned and the trauma millions are experiencing physically and psychologically.
It reminds us of the words of the prophet Jeremiah:
“A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.” Jeremiah 31:15
Each and every one of us are called to respond and bring comfort to those affected by this unprecedented crisis in modern Israel.
Since Israel’s rebirth in 1948, the difficult journey intensified as we continued to be attacked by our enemies who surround us. At the same time, it has been a journey of restoration and redemption, of witnessing the miraculous rebuilding of the land that the God of Israel promised to the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. WIZO, working hand-in-hand with the Israeli Government, has been central in the rebuilding of the Jewish nation and strengthening the resilience of Israeli society.
About WIZO
WIZO is a Zionist organisation, meaning that every Jew has the right of return to our historical homeland—the Land of Israel:
“I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land.” (Ezekiel 36:24)
Founded in 1920 by Zionist women, WIZO is older than the modern State of Israel and has been central in working toward the fulfilment of the universal and national vision of the prophets—the re-establishment and continuity of the Jewish nation. WIZO is one of the largest and most well-established women’s nonprofit organisations in the world.
For over 100 years, WIZO has impacted the lives of countless Israelis through all stages of life: from 170 daycare centres that offer childcare to over 12,000 babies and toddlers; to youth in our youth villages, schools and boarding institutions; to young girls and women at pivotal life junctures in our women’s programmes; to the elderly in our WIZO community centres and our Parents Home and much more. On a daily basis, 70,000 lives are touched by WIZO.
WIZO Australia
WIZO came to Australia in 1935, with the establishment of the first group in Melbourne, followed a year later by Sydney. Soon after that, the Australian WIZO Federation came into being.
Australian women Zionists actively began undertaking fundraising for child welfare work in Israel. The movement continued to grow and thrive. During the war years, WIZO focused on the plight of European Jewry. Many refugees from war torn Europe travelled to Australia to make it their home and formed the basis of the most committed WIZO women throughout Australia.
WIZO Australia is currently represented in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia, with over 4,000 members to date.
WIZO Queensland
WIZO Queensland was established in Brisbane, in 1959 and reestablished on the Gold Coast in January 2025. All our workers are volunteers.
Our current QLD Campaign is working together with the International WIZO Campaign to ensure that all WIZO Daycare Centre bomb shelters are equipped with Sensory Motor Rooms. These well-equipped rooms provide a sense of normality in the midst of crisis and enable a safe, routine life for children, as well as staff.

In memory of Ariel and Kfir Bibas, who were brutally murdered in Gaza, Queensland’s next Campaign, to be launched in July 2025, will be Beit Pa’amonim.
Beit Pa’amonim is Israel’s sole specialised transition facility for dispossessed infants. Beit Pa’amonim provides life- saving care and a secure environment for newborns and toddlers, offering tailored care plans developed by a multidisciplinary team incorporating therapeutic interventions and life story documentation to support smooth transitions to adoptive families.
Christian Zionists and WIZO
The support WIZO has received from Christian Zionists has been overwhelming. Israel and Jews worldwide know that we are not mourning alone. Hundreds of thousands of Christians on social media, in rallies and people we meet in our everyday lives have spoken out boldly saying, “You are not alone. We are with you!”
Through this incredible support, we can only comprehend the words of the prophets of Israel when they declared:
“This is what the Lord God says: Behold, I will beckon to the nations and set up My
flag to the peoples. And they will bring your sons in their arms and your daughters will be carried on their shoulders.’” (Isaiah 49:22)
Israel and the Jewish community worldwide cannot thank Christian Zionists enough for all they have done and are doing.
