During these critical times for Israel, we are witnessing unimaginable hardship for countless families, women and children across the country. Lives are being torn apart and the need for immediate support has never been more urgent. WIZO is on the frontlines.
From Horror to Hope
Kfar Aza Kibbutz before and after October 7, 2023″ “In the first days of the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, the city of Sderot, located just one kilometre from the Gaza border, was attacked. A total of 45 rockets were fired on Sderot, killing 20 people. Hamas then attacked the nearby Kfar Aza kibbutz. The IDF found beheaded children ranging from babies to toddlers, along with adults who had also been dismembered and burned. In total, 71 were massacred and 17 taken hostage.
In August this year, we at WIZO Queensland turned our attention to Sderot, one of Israel’s most devastated communities that bears the brunt of the unimaginable trauma following the events of October 7, 2023.
A Mission to Protect the Youngest
Our Project will focus on the dispossessed newborns and toddlers of Sderot. WIZO will work together with Beit Pa’amonim (little bells), Israel’s sole specialised transition facility that provides life-saving care, a secure environment and tailored care plans to support smooth transitions for the children to adoptive families.

We are all familiar with the words in Genesis 12:3 – “I will bless those who bless you…” At this time, we are seeing Christians on a global scale realizing more than ever the importance of those words. It has been overwhelming to receive messages such as these from Australian Christians across social media every day:
“I am a Catholic. Please tell me what I need to do to become a Zionist, because I’ll do it. Whatever it takes I’ll do it with all my heart. I support Israel with all of my being.” – MeganStanding Together — Jews and Christians United for Israel
At the end of the day, it’s about bringing awareness of this crisis to everyone we meet and it’s also about raising funds. Our enemies may try and destroy, but we will say: “Let us arise and build. So they put their hands to the work.” Nehemiah 2:18.

Last year, WIZO Queensland, together with those of you who participated, raised enough funds to have been given the naming rights of our first Motor Sensory Room in childcare-centre bomb shelters in Israel. The one thing we all have in common, Jews and non-Jews, is that we are Zionists and we all stand together with Israel.

“May the Almighty cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighters from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavour.
“May He lead our enemies under our soldiers’ sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is the Lord your God, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.”
