When you look at the map of the world you see many countries. There are over two hundred countries spread all over the world, all with their own boundaries and so forth. In these lands there live people. Now take for instance Kenya, you live in Kenya and so you’re called a Kenyan. But you could very well be a member of a tribe in Kenya maybe Kikuyu. So you are a Kikuyu, but you’re also a Kenyan because you live in the land of Kenya.
Nowadays you hear a lot about Palestine and the Palestinians. What are Palestinians and what exactly is Palestine? Can we find the word Palestine in the Bible? What is Canaan? Who are the Philistines and what is Philistia? Who gave the Promised Land the name of Palestine and why? How long did this situation last? What exactly happened in 1948? Today you see attempts by some Arabs to create a kind of Palestinian state in the land of Israel. When you read the Bible: is that what God wants? Why is it that there are Arab Israelis, Arabs citizens of Israel that even have a small political party in the parliament? They vote and they have positions, political positions in the government even among the ambassadors. Rev Willem Glashouwer explains about all of this in this week’s episode (10) of the new series (3) of Focus on the Future.
